DFC Player Development Pathway

At Dover Futbol Club (DFC), our mission is to provide a complete development pathway for every player — from their first touches in our recreation program to competitive play in EDP and beyond. Every stage of the journey builds technical skill, game understanding, teamwork, and a love for soccer.

Recreation Program (Pre-K to 8th Grade)

Our recreation program introduces players to the game in a fun, inclusive, and positive environment.

  • Seasons: Fall (August–November) & Spring (March–June)
  • Ages: Pre-K through 8th Grade (Fall: Pre-K–5th / Spring: Pre-K–8th)
  • Focus: Basic ball control, dribbling, passing, shooting, and teamwork
  • Format: 1–2 sessions per week with weekend game play
This program is open to all levels — no tryouts required. It’s the perfect way for players to learn the game and build confidence before moving into the 4v4 and travel programs.

4v4 League (U7–U8)

Our 4v4 program bridges the gap between recreation and competitive soccer.

  • Ages: U7–U8
  • Format: 4v4 small-sided games with no goalkeepers against other towns / teams.
  • Focus: Ball mastery, 1v1 skills, spacing, and creativity
  • Coaching: Licensed DFC coaches lead all training sessions and games
The 4v4 model maximizes touches on the ball and develops decision-making in a fun, fast-paced setting. Players from this program are prepared to move into our Travel and EDP teams.

Travel Teams (MCYSA League U9–U18)

DFC Travel teams represent our club in the Morris County Youth Soccer Association (MCYSA).

  • Ages: U9–U14
  • Focus: Team tactics, positional understanding, and competitive play
  • Structure: 2 training sessions per week + weekend league games + local tournaments
  • Pathway: Players may advance into DFC EDP teams for higher-level competition
  • Winter Season: Indoor training and winter league
Our travel program combines structured development with a competitive league environment while maintaining the DFC philosophy of technical excellence.

EDP Teams (U8–U18)

Our highest level of competition — EDP teams train and compete year-round in regional leagues and tournaments.

  • Ages: U8–U18
  • Focus: Advanced technical and tactical development, speed of play, and physical preparation
  • Structure: 3 training sessions per week + EDP league play + regional tournaments / showcases
  • Winter Season: Indoor training and competitions (ISE Indoor Cup)
  • Pathway Goal: Preparation for high school, college, and professional levels
